Some more pictures

I drew this during finals week. I'd have to say that winter semester was possibly one of the worst semesters of my entire academic career. I'm glad I'll be going on a mission so then I don't have to worry about school, thank goodness.

During my school burnout, the only thing I was interested in drawing was...me. Yeah. I'm a little vain. This picture and the next one aren't exactly self-portraits I was going for, but I used references for both.

Both drawn a little too quickly. I'm trying to be more patient with my drawings and be patient while I draw. Of course, I'm also trying to "stay loose," which almost feels like that's a contradiction.

I didn't get the job.

Do you like how I completely forgot to outline the table at the bottom? Yup. Space cadet. Observe, if you will, the employment of the infamous "smarm brow" in panel 6. My deepest apologies to Tracy Butler.

This particular piece will remain unfinished, but it was a really fun warm up on the tablet.

I also went to a drop-in figure drawing class last night. More on that later, but viewers will be spared pictures of naked people for the sake of family members, people who generally don't like to look at naked people, and nieces and/or nephews who may wander around on here.

Him and Her and She

I'd like to show you my baby I worked on since about January:

I worked on this in Photoshop CS4. It was all done free-hand on my Wacom Bamboo, which is really, really hard. I could have drawn it on paper and then scanned it in and taken it from there, but I haven't quite mastered scanning. Plus, I really enjoyed fiddling around with all the different tools you can use in CS4.

I had a lot of frustration with the guy's face (guys are SO much harder to draw than girls - girls are just so easy to make pretty) and those hands were killer. I originally was going to wimp out and just make the hands into mittens or something, but my friend Erin called me out on it and told me to draw the hands anyway. It was really hard and at one point my computer overheated and froze and I DIDN'T SAVE ANYTHING so I had to start over on the hands. Grr! But hey, it was worth it.

I actually didn't decide to flip the whole canvas until the very, very end. I think it makes it more poignant, so I'm glad I did.

I learned a lot about Photoshop from this and while it's made me more willing to work in Photoshop and I've got a better handle on using a tablet, I just hope that my next projects don't take as long.

apologies and an explanation

Sorry I haven't posted in ages. I haven't even posted art! Now THAT is lame sauce. So here, have a looksee at a picture I finished:

Technically it's not finished. But I'm satisfied with it and have moved onto other projects. I really need to update this blog with more pictures.

On another note, I have decided to postpone my application to the animation program. Instead of doing it in April, I'll be applying in August. I don't feel like I'm ready right now, and hopefully I'll be able to prepare all summer long.

Sketchy Poo

I was finally able to scan some sketches today! Yee haw.

Sorry about the bad quality of the scan, I'm still trying to figure out how to best scan drawings. And as for the lighthouse...I swear it wasn't crooked when I was drawing it...the lighthouse moved. I swear.
